Follow Romeo's journey!

Scuffy AKA Romeo

Day 1: Operation Rescue Romeo

4/28: This young boy arrived at a high kill shelter after surviving a terrible attack.  His body language showed it all.  He was defeated. His face, chin and forehead were full of ticks, scabs, and scuffs.  His forehead, eye, mouth, chin & throat had been bitten, leaving an infected left eye, swollen shut with pus. Volunteers from the Friends of Madera Animal shelter rescued him hours before he was put to sleep & took him to the vet.  He allowed vet staff to flush his eye, relieve pressure and drain the pus...all while wagging and licking.  He was the perfect patient.  He was placed into a loving foster home where 12 ticks were removed (3 from the inside of his ear), he was bathed, medicated, most of all--loved!!!  It was then that we watched his personality start to change... Scuffy was Scuffy no more and Romeo emerged

***UPDATE: 5/6 Losing an eye???

One week later:

Scabs and scars healing, Romeo had a follow up visit with the vet.  Although his spirits high, his left eye wasn't healing.  He needed the eye to rest; it seems his attack did more damage than we hoped.  He's left eye was in bad shape and ulcerated. He needed a procedure to temporarily sew it shut; allowing it time to heal.  He was prescribed special medicine/serum and was given a 50/50 chance of the eye surviving . Through it all though, Romeo was patient and loving, laying on his back for belly rubs. The vet staff just adore this little heartbreaker...fingers & paws crossed for him.

***Update: 5/22...
Romeo is on the mend and has proved himself such a good boy that he doesn't even need to use the cone of shame.  YAY Romeo--what a stud!!! He had a field trip to a volunteers house today where he was flirting (quite effectively) with her 3 females!! He was sure to show us that even though he has one eye (for now) that has not caused him to slow down one bit.  He's as charming as ever. 💚

His eye prognosis is still to be determined but his spirits are high.  Romeo's vet bills are over $500 so far and are increasing with every visit. We are doing all we can to provide him with all of the veterinary care he needs but we are a volunteer group and funds are limited.

If you'd like to donate to Romeo's medical treatment, please click on the FMAS link below.  In the "special instructions to the seller" please type in his Foster Klaus and/or Romeo's name.

They don't get more handsome than this folks!!!

6/4: Romeo attended his first adoption event today and although got a lot of love and cuddles, he didn't find his perfect home.  He showed everyone what personality he has.  In fact, the crowds stopped in front of him due to his flirtatious vibe!! If you're interested in meeting and adopting him, fill out the form below!

6/17...Romeo will be at the PetSmart Daly City Adoption Event!! Come out and meet him!! He'd love to meet (and flirt) with you!!
